Reviews are starting to trickle in for The Lonely Mortician. I still can’t believe people are paying to read my words and enjoying them! Here are some excerpts (minus spoilers):

I’m so thankful for all of you who’ve supported me in my author adventure.
Because of you, I reached 200 followers yesterday and have already sold so many pre-orders. You are the best! 
I get asked all the time how many pages my book is.
FYI, authors don’t care about page count until it goes to print–sometimes eliciting the feelings of “Oh, crap! I’m never going to make money on this book.”
What we do care about is word count (The Lonely Mortician is 76,398 words). And if we’ve crafted a good story, chances are we’ve been meticulous in plotting and planning exactly what happens and when. At the quarter mark, the character should be making a choice, whether to leave the “comfort” of their current life for the chance at redemption with a new path or to stay put (the story ends at that point if they don’t jump into the unknown). In the middle, something will flip–sometimes it’s a lie that lulls the character into a false sense of security. A little bit later, all hope is lost with no turning back to the former life.
The Lonely Mortician is 251 pages of moments to pull you out of reality for a spell and jump into someone else’s shoes. Maybe you’ll like it. Maybe you won’t. Maybe you’ll love it. You won’t know until you give it a try.

Word Counts
I’m interrupting my usual posts about #thelonelymortician (because I’m nervous. And excited it comes out on Friday. And did I say nervous?) and giving you a peek into my author life.
For each book I’m working on (I’ll post about that sometime soon too), there is what I call a dump file with so much essential information.
One of the important things is my word count tracking.
I’m not doing #NaNoWriMo this year (partly because I already know I can write 50,000 words in a month, and partly because I don’t need any more stress in my life). But I AM writing, and by the end of today or tomorrow, I hope to reach the midpoint of my next book. The working title is Doors to Unlock, but I have to wait and see if I can carry the theme throughout the whole thing.

Why D.M. Tregaskis?
IT’S A QUESTION I GET ASKED FREQUENTLY
There are several reasons. One, I actually don’t like my name, but that’s a story for another day.
The main reason, though, revolves around my motives. I’ve been working furiously for the last nine years to become an author that people actually want to follow with books that can change readers’ lives. I want to give you a needed break from reality but also help you gain a greater sense of purpose, develop more sympathy for others, and have an increased positive outlook on humanity. (Maybe I’m there, maybe I’m not).
With this goal, there’s a chance of success. And there’s a slim chance of fame. (I’m using this word very loosely). Fame and fortune don’t motivate me. I don’t want them at all. If I could just write and not do any social media/marketing and my books would sell so I could contribute some financially to my family and no one had any clue who I was, I would embalm that option and bury it at my feet (get it…I wrote a book about a mortician…).
But being a hermit isn’t realistic or feasible. And honestly, I want to use this opportunity as an author as a means to help people. I want to build others up. I want to do good in this world. I just don’t want it to necessarily be tied to my real name so I can still have some anonymity in case my author name becomes a household name.
Writing lots and changing the world one reader at a time = good (in my book).
Being oohed and ahhed over = not good.
